Well I was not expecting I like it that much that I would start this immediately after the test piece but I actually when out home got all stuff needed and starting working on this pieces immediately.

The plan was to start with 2 tiles and expand to more after finishing those. Well I ended up starting the 3rd and 4th tile when I saw how good they were looking but let’s start from the beginning.
In the beniging

MDF base ready, foam cut and glued on top of the mdf with construction adhesive (anything acrylic would be good enough and won’t melt the foam. It should be something that doesn’t need air to harden (like PVA).
Cut separate parts for the road. The road side to side would be 10cm and out of that around 2cm would be used to transition from the ground parts to the road. In some places I tried to indent the foam but in the end it didn’t do much of a difference to continue doing.
Added foam rocks and natural things around the pieces to make them interesting and more natural and life-like.

I tried again using the sand, well didn’t make much difference before, didn’t do now. So spoiler alert I won’t use it again.
What I will use is rocks and the ones I used looked quite nice to cover parts of the foam and small hills and iregularities on the ground that made sense for rocks to exist. Corners and roads are not perfect if they are opened by hand so this way it was easier to keep the natural part of the tiles.
Each road is 5cm apart from the center of the tile (10cm in total) and I made the first 2 tiles as an L shape and a road crossing the whole tile.

I covered the whole tiles in brown color with the airbrush and a trick mod podge layer that would protect them.
At this stage I started working on the 3rd and 4th tile in parallel to make a 2×2 immediately seeing how well this was working.

Flocking was really easy, 3 bottles of foam flock, natural green, autumn green and mixed green with a sprinkle of orange was enough to give variety on the board.
Also I used miniature leaves, small sticks and dirt and orange leaves that I liked to emulate a grassy and autumn looking terrain.
Started with a layer of foam flock then sprayed a custom made sealant (Water 5 parts, Mod podge 1 part and 1-2 drops of dish soap to break the water tension).
Ended up doing 2-3 layers of foam of different colors to make it work properly. At the end I sprayed the board around 3-4 times and let it dry to make it rock solid.

These are the final results and below you can see the board in action with the second game of moonstone with my friend Alex.

Next steps? Grass with RIVERs and epoxy resin….dreadful!!!
